Barrel & Flow started in the summer of 2022 on a parking lot behind our King St. taproom. Marcus and Jerome had been talking about what a Black-owned, Toronto-centred festival could actually feel like — not just a stage and a beer tent, but a real collaboration between the city's independent breweries and the musicians whose work doesn't always make it onto traditional festival stages.
The first edition brought nine breweries and a stage of artists from the city's reggae-afrobeat-R&B underground. The lineup was handpicked; the breweries were independent; the crowd was the city itself. People stayed until the lights came on at the bar two doors down.
Five editions later, Barrel & Flow is an annual August tradition — a one-day event that pulls together the best of Toronto's independent brewing scene with the musicians who make this city move. Brewery row. Music stage. Local food partners. And a room full of people who actually want to be there.
